A short history

The shrine’s traditional account dates its foundation to 211; this is a date in shrine tradition rather than an independently established archaeological founding date. The official FAQ dates the present main sanctuary buildings to 1810.

Before you go

Use the detailed gate schedule rather than assuming every part of the grounds is open until 17:00. Safe-travel, protection and business prayers are traditions, not assurances of safety or financial gain. Follow posted photography and precinct rules.
