Ordinary worship and the main wooded precinct; excludes station transport, special interior tours, mountain hikes, formal prayers and queues. A planning allowance, not an official visit duration. Walking pace, breaks and queues vary.
Getting there: Kagoshima tourism lists about 15 minutes by bus from JR Kirishima-Jingu Station. The station is not beside the shrine; allow additional time from the bus stop through the approach.
Grounds hours: The official access page lists precinct worship as unrestricted. Staffed-counter and formal prayer times are separate.
Office hours: Official staffed-counter hours: 08:00–17:00. Formal prayer reception: 09:00–16:30.
Admission categories: Ordinary worship is listed as free. Museums, formal prayers, amulets and goshuin are separate.

A short history

Traditions connect the shrine with Ninigi’s descent from heaven. The shrine moved following eruptions and fires; the present halls were built in 1715 by Shimazu Yoshitaka. The main, offering and worship halls were designated National Treasures in 2022.

Before you go

Use the official 17:00 counter closing time rather than a later tourism listing. Takachiho-no-mine and the former shrine site at Takachiho-gawara are separate destinations. Do not assume special interior access is included in ordinary worship.
