A short history
The exact founding date is uncertain; the shrine's Japanese history describes a move here in 923. The main sanctuary, worship hall, romon gate and first torii are Important Cultural Properties, not National Treasure buildings.
Before you go
Buildings are viewed from the permitted worship areas; a designation does not mean unrestricted interior access. Seasonal flower gardens have separate dates and fees. September's Hojoya festival can be crowded.
