A short history

The foundation date is unknown. Shrine tradition relates its name to fragrant water appearing in 862. The current main sanctuary was built in 1605, and the front gate was donated from Fushimi Castle in 1622.

Before you go

The water story is religious tradition, not evidence of medical effects. Garden admission and opening arrangements need a separate check. Festival conditions differ from an ordinary visit.
