A short history

The shrine's history links its present location to a move from Yamamiya in 806; this is recorded as tradition. It became a centre of worship on Fuji's southern side. Tokugawa Ieyasu sponsored the main sanctuary, now an Important Cultural Property.

Before you go

This entry and map point refer to the Fujinomiya foothill shrine, not the summit Okumiya. Mount Fuji views depend on weather. The pond's designation is distinct from a building designation; childbirth prayers are a tradition, not a guarantee.
