Fukutsu

Miyajidake Shrine

宮地嶽神社

Choose Miyajidake for its large shimenawa sacred rope and a stepped viewpoint looking down the straight approach toward the sea. This is a Fukutsu trip, not a central Fukuoka stop; the famous sunset alignment is seasonal and weather-dependent.

A short history

Shrine tradition connects this hillside with Empress Jingu praying before a sea voyage. She is enshrined with Katsumura and Katsuyori; prayers for good fortune and business prosperity remain part of the shrine's religious life.

Before you go

The Path of Light is associated with February and October, but visibility is not guaranteed. Sunset-viewing periods may use tickets or special crowd arrangements: check the latest official notice. The stepped viewpoint is not a confirmed step-free route.
