Izanagi no Mikoto · Izanami no Mikoto

A short history

Shrine tradition says Yamato Takeru established worship of Izanagi and Izanami here, with a wolf guiding him. The site developed alongside mountain ascetic practice; wolf-related guardian worship spread widely in the Edo period. These founding stories are presented as tradition.
