A short history

Shrine tradition traces its origins to a sanctuary founded on Mount Iwaki in 780 and the lower shrine’s relocation here in 1091. The mountain remains central to local worship, including the Oyama Sankei pilgrimage tradition.

Before you go

As checked October 8, 2026, repairs have begun at the worship hall. Ordinary worship is before the tower gate; the temporary prayer venue is for prayer participants only. The end date is not confirmed. Mountain climbing is a separate activity, not included in this visit.
