Our first Miyagi entry is Shiogama Shrine on Ichimoriyama. Allow time for the uphill approach from Hon-Shiogama Station. Nearby Shiwahiko Shrine is a separate shrine in the same grounds, while the museum is a separate paid visit; neither should be confused with ordinary worship at Shiogama.

Getting there
The local tourism association gives about 15 minutes on foot from JR Hon-Shiogama Station. The shrine stands on a hill; route and ascent affect walking time. Check the official access guide before choosing an approach.
